2/28 Shooto GIG Tokyo Vol. 1 - RESULTS

Sunday, 1 March 2009

The first ever Shooto Gig Tokyo event took place yesterday in Shinjuku Face. It was an intersting card with some good talent and fights that, even though there were no title fights, they will have an impact on the Shooto rankings.

An upset, in my opion, in the co-main event. Shinya Murofushi, ranked #2 flyweight, went down to "Heat" Takeshi. I thought it would be a close fight, Takeshi submitting Murofushi is just over a minute is very impressive and will have an impact on the rankings.

The main event saw 2 very experienced competitors in Kenichiro Togashi and Ganjo Tentsuku face off. This was always going to be a close encounter, and Togashi came out on top again. This is the second time they have met, both times the fight has gone the distance and both times Togashi has gotten the decision.

Welter: Kenichiro Togashi Def. Ganjo Tentsuku by Decision 2-0
Fly: "Heat" Takeshi Sato Def. Shinya Murofushi by rear-naked choke Round 1 1:14
Welter: Komei Okada vs. vs. Shinobu Miura Draw
Welter: Hisaki Hiraishi Def. Koichi Taguchi by Decision 3-0

Rookie Tournament Fights:
Welter: Junpei Konno Def. Yohei Ota by Decision 3-0
Welter: Yoshio Tokuhisa vs. Koji Nishioka Draw

Thursday, 26 February 2009

This Saturday there are 2 events in Tokyo, Cage Force and Shooto will kick off Gig Tokyo in Shinjuku Face.

The main event is between 2 shooto veterans that have seen competition at all levels and they have faced eachother before as well, in 2005. On that occation, Kenichiro Togashi came out on top in a fight that went the distance.

In Togashi's last fight, he took on Yusuke Endo for the Shooto Pacific title. Tentsuku went the distance with Shooto title holder Takashi Nakakura and went the distance, but he also lost by decision.

Also on the card is the undefeated #2 ranked flyweight Shinya Murofushi, always worth watching. He has improved his standup, his strength is on the ground though.

2/28 Shooto GIG Tokyo Vol. 1 - Fights Announced

Monday, 2 February 2009

The first installment to "GIG Tokyo" is looking better and better. The ticket for this event is cheap, but the card is looking very good.

They have now added Shinya Murofushi (shooto ranked #2) against "Heat" Takeshi. Murofushi is one of my favorite fighters to watch, he is very tall for the weight and is therefore a very awkward opponent. "Heat" Takeshi has experience on his side though, so this should be interesting especially since Shooto are now publishing flyweight rankings.

Also added is the welterweight fight between Koichi Taguchi and Hisaki Hiraishi.

Added:
Fly: Shinya Murofushi 5-0-1 vs. 7-6-1 "Heat" Takeshi Sato
Welter: Koichi Taguchi 1-3-1 vs. Hisaki Hiraishi "Kotobukimaru"

Previously announced:
Welter (A): Ganjo Tentsuku 9-3-2 vs. 7-6-5 Kenichiro Togashi
Welter (B): Komei Okada vs. 5-8-1 vs. 2-4-3 Shinobu Miura

Rookie Tournament Fights:
Welter: Junpei Konno vs. Yohei Ota
Welter: Yoshio Tokuhisa vs. Koji Nishioka
Welter: MIKE vs. Fumihiko Kawamura

10/13 Shooto - Kitazawa Townhall *REMINDER*

Friday, 10 October 2008

Just a reminder of this event. It is happening in Kitazawa Townhall on Monday (which is a public holiday in Japan) and it should be a good event.

One change has happened to the card though, this featherweight fight is taken off due to Yamauchi suffering a rib injury:
Makoto Yamauchi 1-0-0 vs. 1-4-2 Nobuhiro "Mike" Hayakawa
Which is a shame, but there is still good talent on this card.

The complete card and fight order:
Bantam: Junji Ikoma 10-9-3 vs. 5-3-0 Yusei Shimokawa
Rookie Tourn Light: Takumi Ota 4-1-1 vs. 1-0-0 Issei Tamura
Rookie Tourn Welter: Kazuya Satomoto 4-1-0 vs. 1-0-0 Ikuo Usuda
Welter: Shinobu Miura 1-3-3 vs. 1-2-1 Koichi Taguchi
