Shooto had put together a very interesting card for their 1st GIG Saitama card. The main event was a catchweight fight at 54kg between the #1 ranked flyweight, "Shinpei" Tahara and Jessie Taitano from Guam.

A lot of the fans had come to see the Shooto Legend Rumina Sato in a grappling fight with Yoshiko Matsumoto, in a fight that went the distance. Matsumoto pulled out the points victory.

Monday, 20 July 2009

The 1st GIG Saitama card is ready, and the honor of the main event goes to "Shinpei" Tahara vs. Jessie Taitano. This will be a catchweight fight and should be a very interesting match-up of a top flyweight and a fighter climbing the bantamweight ranking.

Also added to the card is a grappling fight between Rumina Sato and Yoshihiko Matsumoto. Rumina has been struggling in the ring lately, and has been mixing it up with a bit of ShootBoxing, but he is a star in Shooto and I am sure there will be lots of fans wanting to see him grapple agian.

Over all a good Saitama GIG card, these are more about promoting up and coming fighters, and this card should do just that.

Main-Event:
9. 54kg: Noboru "Shinpei" Tahara 6-3-1 vs. 5-3-2 Jessie Taitano

8/9 Shooto Gig Saitama 1 - Fights Announced

Saturday, 11 July 2009

The 1st Shooto Gig Saitama card is taking shape and 4 more fights have been added. Most notable, Guy Delameau will take on Komei Okada. Guy Delameau was on a good run in 2008, but 2009 has started with a 1-1-1 record. Winning a decisive win in January and having 2 very close fights end in a loss and a draw. Okada has not won since 2007 and both these fighters will be hungry for the win here.

Also added is a female attraction. "Windy" Tomomi will take on "Jet" Izumi. "Jet" has not had a fight since 2005 and it will be interesting to see how she does in her return.

Added:
Fly: "Windy" Tomomi Sunaba 12-10-0 vs. 5-5-0 "Jet" Izumi Noguchi
Light: Hidenori Nishino 2-3-2 vs. 6-6-1 Masaki Yanagisawa
Light: Toshiaki Hayasaka 0-4-0 vs. 0-0-1 Kosuke Kindaichi
Welter: Komei Okada 5-9-2 vs. 9-5-1 Guy Delameau

Fly: Kazuyuki Yoshida 0-3-0 vs. Shuichiro Okumura

4/10 Shooto - Shooting Disco 8 "We are Tarzan!"

Friday, 3 April 2009

It is time for me to catch up on some cards...

GutsMan is putting on another event in their popular Shooting Disco
series. The main event could very well deceide the next challenger to BJ's title. Shooto ranked #2 Ryuichi Miki is taking on the #4 ranked veteran Junji Ikoma. I think it is safe to say that the winner will be ranked #1 next month, since #1 ranked Yuki Shoujou lost his fight against "BJ" on Mach 20.

Other than that, it is a normal Shooting Disco card, LOTS of talented fighters. There should be some very good fights here, these events have had a habit of putting on some of the best fights over the last couple of years.

Main-Event:
Bantam: Ryuichi Miki 8-2-3 vs. 12-9-4 Junji Ikoma

Bantam: Ayumu "Gozo" Shioda 5-6-0 vs. 4-6-1 Shinichi Hanawa
Welter: Komei Okada 5-8-2 vs. 5-3-1 Hisaki "Kotobukimaru" Hiraishi
Welter: Guy Delameau 9-4-0 vs. 3-0-0 Ikuo Usuda
Light: Yuji Inoue 4-4-1 vs. 5-2-0 Naohiro Mizuno
Bantam: Hiroaki Ijima 2-1-0 vs. 0-2-1 Tatsuya Nakashima
Light: Hidenori Nishino 1-3-1 vs. 0-2-0 Toshiaki Hayasaka

Rookie Tournament Fights:
Middle: Yoichiro Sato 2-1-1 vs. 1-2-0 Naoki Hirayama

Light-Heavy: Tomohito Tanizaki vs. Takahiro Suzuki

2/28 Shooto GIG Tokyo Vol. 1 - RESULTS

Sunday, 1 March 2009

The first ever Shooto Gig Tokyo event took place yesterday in Shinjuku Face. It was an intersting card with some good talent and fights that, even though there were no title fights, they will have an impact on the Shooto rankings.

An upset, in my opion, in the co-main event. Shinya Murofushi, ranked #2 flyweight, went down to "Heat" Takeshi. I thought it would be a close fight, Takeshi submitting Murofushi is just over a minute is very impressive and will have an impact on the rankings.

The main event saw 2 very experienced competitors in Kenichiro Togashi and Ganjo Tentsuku face off. This was always going to be a close encounter, and Togashi came out on top again. This is the second time they have met, both times the fight has gone the distance and both times Togashi has gotten the decision.

Welter: Kenichiro Togashi Def. Ganjo Tentsuku by Decision 2-0
Fly: "Heat" Takeshi Sato Def. Shinya Murofushi by rear-naked choke Round 1 1:14
Welter: Komei Okada vs. vs. Shinobu Miura Draw
Welter: Hisaki Hiraishi Def. Koichi Taguchi by Decision 3-0

Rookie Tournament Fights:
Welter: Junpei Konno Def. Yohei Ota by Decision 3-0
Welter: Yoshio Tokuhisa vs. Koji Nishioka Draw
Welter: Patrick Doty Def. Fumihiko Kawamura by KO Round 1 1:43
Feather: Yoshihiko Matsumoto Def. Yuki Yasunaga by arm-bar Round 1 1:11
Bantam: Yasutaka Ishigami Def. Yuya Kaneuchi by Decision 3-0

2/28 Shooto Gig Tokyo Vol.1 - Fight Order

Thursday, 26 February 2009

This Saturday there are 2 events in Tokyo, Cage Force and Shooto will kick off Gig Tokyo in Shinjuku Face.

The main event is between 2 shooto veterans that have seen competition at all levels and they have faced eachother before as well, in 2005. On that occation, Kenichiro Togashi came out on top in a fight that went the distance.

In Togashi's last fight, he took on Yusuke Endo for the Shooto Pacific title. Tentsuku went the distance with Shooto title holder Takashi Nakakura and went the distance, but he also lost by decision.

Also on the card is the undefeated #2 ranked flyweight Shinya Murofushi, always worth watching. He has improved his standup, his strength is on the ground though.

2/28 Shooto GIG Tokyo Vol. 1 - Fights Announced

Monday, 2 February 2009

The first installment to "GIG Tokyo" is looking better and better. The ticket for this event is cheap, but the card is looking very good.

They have now added Shinya Murofushi (shooto ranked #2) against "Heat" Takeshi. Murofushi is one of my favorite fighters to watch, he is very tall for the weight and is therefore a very awkward opponent. "Heat" Takeshi has experience on his side though, so this should be interesting especially since Shooto are now publishing flyweight rankings.

Also added is the welterweight fight between Koichi Taguchi and Hisaki Hiraishi.

Added:
Fly: Shinya Murofushi 5-0-1 vs. 7-6-1 "Heat" Takeshi Sato
Welter: Koichi Taguchi 1-3-1 vs. Hisaki Hiraishi "Kotobukimaru"

Previously announced:
Welter (A): Ganjo Tentsuku 9-3-2 vs. 7-6-5 Kenichiro Togashi
Welter (B): Komei Okada vs. 5-8-1 vs. 2-4-3 Shinobu Miura

Rookie Tournament Fights:
Welter: Junpei Konno vs. Yohei Ota
Welter: Yoshio Tokuhisa vs. Koji Nishioka
Welter: MIKE vs. Fumihiko Kawamura
Feather: Yuki Yasunaga vs. Yoshihiko Matsumoto
Bantam: 保貴 (?) Ishigami vs. Yuya Kaneuchi

2/28 Shooto Gig Tokyo Vol. 1 - Fights Announced

Tuesday, 20 January 2009

Shooto announced the start of a new "tour" on Sunday. It is an extention of the "Gig" tours. This time they are adding "Gig Tokyo" to the gig's they already have (North, Central, West etc.). The first Gig Tokyo event will be held in Shinjuku Face Saturday 28.

There are already a few interesting fights added to this card. Ganjo Tantsuku is currently ranked #3 in the Shooto welterweight division. He has had 3 losses in his career, and this time he gets a chance to re-match the first fighter to defeat him in professional Shooto. Kenichiro Togashi defeated Tentsuku by deceision in their last encounter almost 4 years ago. Since then, Togashi has only won once but he has faced fighters such as Mitsuhiro Ishida, Joachim Hansen and Yusuke Endo to name a few. This should be a good fight and I am guessing it might be the main event.

Announced:
Welter (A): Ganjo Tentsuku 9-3-2 vs. 7-6-5 Kenichiro Togashi
Welter (B): Komei Okada vs. 5-8-1 vs. 2-4-3 Shinobu Miura

Rookie Tournament Fights:
Welter: Junpei Konno vs. Yohei Ota
Welter: Yoshio Tokuhisa vs. Koji Nishioka
Welter: MIKE vs. Fumihiko Kawamura
Feather: Yuki Yasunaga vs. Yoshihiko Matsumoto
Bantam: 保貴 (?) Ishigami vs. Yuya Kaneuchi
