12/31 Fields Dynamite! - First Fights Announced

Monday, 2 November 2009

Masato was going to face the K-1 World Max Tournament champion in his last fight on NYE. But it was suspected and today it is official, Giorgio Petrosyan's right hand is broken and he will not be able to take the fight.

Masato will fight another opponent. BTW, if you were planning to sit in the special VIP Masato cheering section, it is already sold out. At JPY100,000 a ticket, thats a healthy income for FEG. Unless of course they gave them out free, it is not unusual to give out these free to people at his gym etc.

That means that the first fights made public for this year's Dynamite! event are the K-1 Koshien semi-finals.

Announced:
Masato vs. TBA

K-1 Koshien (Highschool) Tournament Finals:
Final: Winner of SF 1 vs. Winner of SF 2
SF 2:Hiroya vs. Masaaki Noiri

7/13 K-1 World Max Tournament Final 8 - RESULTS

Monday, 13 July 2009

Todays K-1 event saw FEG continue the experiment of mathing MMA fighters with K-1 fighters, this is something that started on last year's Dynamite! event, and today the K-1 fighters hit back. I have very mixed emotions about these fights, but one thing is for sure, they certainly deliver in terms of entertainment.

"Kid" went all out for the big KO, and instead was on the receiving end of a counter that KOed him. Krazy Bee team mate, Atsushi Yamamoto caught a beating, he never had a chance against Watanabe, who twice continued to punch a downed opponent. Yamamoto on the other side tried for a few takedowns and showed really why MMA fighters should fight MMA and K-1 fighters should fight K-1...

The last MMA fighter on this card was Kawajiri, taking on Masato in the main event. Kawajiri is an awesome athlete, but was never close on this occation. Masato was dominating the fight and completed the humiliation of the MMA fighters on this occation. I guess that was revenge for "Dynamite!"...

Even if the last few fights on this card were super-fights, this event was really about the final 8 in the World Max tournament. All these fights went the distance and the Japanese fans will be able to cheer on Yuya Yamamoto in the semi-finals. The other fighters going through are: Buakaw Por. Pramuk, Giorgo Petrosyan and Andy Souwer.

Main-Event - SuperFight:
Masato Def. Tatsuya Kawajiri by TKO Round 2 1:43

K-1 World Max Tournament Reserve Fights:
11. Yoshihiro Sato Def. Joeri Mes by Decision (after Extention)
10. Yasuhiro Kido Def. Leroy Kaestner by Decision 3-0

SuperFights:
9. Kazuhisa Watanabe Def. Atsushi Yamamoto by TKO Round 1 2:40
8. Jae Hee Cheon Def. Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto by KO Round 1 1:20

K-1 World Max 2009 - World Championship Tournament Final 8:
7. Buakaw Por. Pramuk Def. Nieky "The Natural" Holtzken by Decision 3-0
6. Andy Souwer Def. Artur Kyshenko by Decision 3-0 (after ext.)
5. Giorgo Petrosyan Def. Albert Kraus by Decision 3-0
4. Yuya Yamamoto Def. Drago by Decision 3-0

Superfights:
3. HIROYA Def. Kiko Lopez by Decision 3-0
2. Dzhabar Askerov Def. Hinata by decision 3-0 (after ext.)

Opening Fight:
1. Jae Gil Noh Def. Go Yokoyama by KO Round 3 2:01

This is how the Semi-Finals will match-up:
Giorgo Petrosyan vs. Yuya Yamamoto
Buakaw Por. Pramuk vs. Andy Souwer

7/13 K-1 World Max Tournament Final 8

Sunday, 12 July 2009

Today they had the weighin for tomorrow's K-1 event in Nippon Budokan in Tokyo. The event is sold out and we will see a continuation of DREAM fighters taking on K-1 fighters. This time Tatsuya Kawajiri will take on the K-1 champion Masato in a fight that I am sure will get lots of attention.

Other DREAM/MMA fighters on the card include the Krazy Bee duo of "Kid" Yamamoto and Atsushi Yamamoto.

The weighin today saw one fighter not making weight, Hiroya came in 1.7kg over, something that will have consequenses for the fight tomorrow. My understanding of the rules are: Fighters that are less than 1 kg over gets 1 point deducted. Less than 2kg over and they gets 2 points deducted, more than 2kg over and you are not fighting.

I wont be able to follow this event and my results will be delayed tomorrow.

Main-Event - SuperFight:
Masato vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri

K-1 World Max Tournament Reserve Fights:
11. Yoshihiro Sato vs. Joeri Mes
10. Yasuhiro Kido vs. Leroy Kaestner

SuperFights:
9. Atsushi Yamamoto vs. Kazuhisa Watanabe
8. Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto vs. Jae Hee Cheon

K-1 World Max 2009 - World Championship Tournament Final 8:

6. Artur Kyshenko vs. Andy Souwer
5. Giorgo Petrosyan vs. Albert Kraus
4. Drago vs. Yuya Yamamoto

Superfights:
3. 62kg: HIROYA vs. Kiko Lopez

7/13 K-1 World Max 2009 - Kawajiri vs. Masato!

Wednesday, 10 June 2009

In last year's Dynamite event the K-1 fighters suffered losses against the DREAM fighters, the fights also proved very popular with the fans and it is clear that the FEG liked the consept of having fighters doing both.

It has been hinted at this match-up for a long time, and not it is official. On July 13 DREAM star Tatsuya Kawajiri will face K-1 star Masato in the K-1 ring.

Kawajiri said after win at last year's Dynamite! event that it was scary going into the ring against a K-1 fighter. This time he is facing a much more experienced and a better fighter. It will be interesting to see how the fighters approach this, I assume Masato will want to keep better distance than Kozo Takeda was able to.

From SportsNavi:

Masato, whose fight with DREAM’s Kawajiri was announced, showed up at the press conference looking intense with his head shaved.

Masato, who has two fights left until his retirement will have his next fight at the July 13 K1 MAX tournament in the Japan BudoKan and it was officially announced on the 10that the Akasaka Circus in Tokyo that Kawajiri Tatsuya who primarily fights in DREAM will be his opponent. Both Masato and Kawajiri attended the press conference. To Kawajiri’s statement that “The feelings of MMA fans and the fans of DREAM are in my gloves. I want to bring those feelings to battle.” Masato made a quick jab with his statement” Can you really go at it with me? Right now, I’m really strong you know.” To that Kawajiri replied “Of course I can step up. Whoever wins this won’t take 3 minutes.”

Super-Fight:
Masato vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri

Wednesday, 25 March 2009

FEG have announced some fights for the K-1 World Max Final 16 event that wil take place in Fukuoka April 21.

This looks like it will be a very good event, and if you are in Fukuoka it should be a good one to go to.

It was announced today that the excentric and entertaining "Jienotsu" Nagashima will take on Albert Kraus in the tournament. Nagashima went out of the Japan Tournament after suffering a cut in his round 1 fight, a cut that opened up in his round 2 fight and forced a stoppage. He clearly made a good impression though, and now he will be back.

What to expect from him? He will enter the ring dressed like a girl...

Other fights in the Tournament will see Andre "Dida" finally getting his K-1 fight, he was due to fight in 3 days, but visa issues forced him to push it back. He will be part of the tournament here, and his opponent will be none other than 2 time champion Buakaw Por Pramuk.

Also scheduled to participate is Japanese star Masato and Russian Artur Kyshenko.

7/7 K-1 World Max Final 8 - Matchups

Masato vs. Drago
Buakaw Por. Pramuk vs. Yoshihiro Sato
Andy Souwer vs. Warren Stevelmans
Yasuhiro Kido vs. Artur Kyshenko

That's right, Yoshihiro Sato gets another shot at Buakaw. For those who remember, their fight in Feb. was very close. Sato almost KO'ed Buakaw in the final seconds of the extention, but Buakaw took a close decision.

4/9 K-1 WorldMax - World Champtionship Tournament Final 16

Wednesday, 19 March 2008

K-1 will hold their tournament final 16 in Hiroshima April 9. If you are in the area, this is a good one. How often do you get to see fighters like this outside of Tokyo and Osaka?

Not only that, but some high profile fighters will be eliminated, as Buakaw fights Albert Kraus and Andy Souwer fights Mike Zambidis.

Personally, I am not a fan of the Youth Tournament thing they are doing, because I think Hiroya is way over exposed. Especially considering he didnt even win the one day tournament they held during Dynamite! Still, the fights are on occations competitive and exciting.

World Championship Tournament FINAL 16 : K-1 Rules / 3Min. 3R Ext.1R
Masato vs. Virgil Kalakoda
Buakaw Por. Pramuk vs. Albert Kraus
Andy Souwer vs. Mike Zambidis
Yoshihiro Sato vs. GORI

K-1 Middle Weight Tournament 10/3 - Result

Wednesday, 3 October 2007

Main Event:Final K-1World Max Middle Weight Tournament
Andy Souwer by TKO towel thrown after round 1 VS. Masato
Andy Souwer got in a few good leg kicks, after round 1 it was clear that Masato was not able to continue. Leg kicks from both Buakaw and Kyshenko also probably played a part.

Fight #9: Super Fight
Su Hwan Lee by decision 3-0 VS. Kazuya Yasuhiro

Fight #8: Semi Final (2)
Andy Souwer by decision 2-0 VS. Albert Kraus
A very hard fight between the 2 dutch fighters. Andy Souwer edges out Kraus by decision.

Fight #7: Semi Final (1)
Masato by KO Round 2 0:30 VS. Artur Kyshenko
Masato will go fresh into the final after getting past Kyshenko in the 2nd round. First round was close, I would probably have given it to Kyshenko, and I believe he will be a fighter to watch in the future.

Fight #6 : Quarter Final (4)
Andy Souwer by KO Round 2 1:39 VS. Drago
In what had been a close fight Souwer KOed Drago with a right.

Fight #5 : Quarter Final (3)
Albert Kraus by decision 3-0 VS. Yoshihiro Sato
Kraus won a very deserved victory. In the end it was boxing skills and experience that made the difference, Sato failed to keep Kraus at a distance.

Fight #4 : Quarter Final (2)
Artur Kyshenko by decision 3-0 VS. Mike Zambidis
After 3 rounds we had a draw, and we had a 4th round in this fight. Kyshenko made his Superior reach count and went through in a close fight.

Fight #3 : Quarter Final (1)
Masato by decision 3-0 VS. Buakaw Por. Pramuk
Masato made Superior boxing skills count and won a deserved decision against Buakaw.

Fight #2 : Reserve Fight (1)
Virgil Kalakoda by KO Round 2 1:56 Takayuki Kohiruimaki

Fight #1 : Super Fight
HIROYA by decision 3-0 VS. Kwon Eolzzang
