FEG will have their World Max Japan tournament later this month, and it should be a good one again.

Outside of the tournament, I cant wait to see Petrosyan back in the ring again. He missed out on a HUGE fight on the Dynamite card due to injury, but a fight with Yoshihiro Sato should be a good way to return.

3/27 K-1 World Max Japan Tournament - Fights Announced

The 3 times Japan tournament champion, Kohirumaki, will try to repeat what he did last year. But this time he has a very hard opponent in the opening round. Another of the favorites should be Yuta Yamamoto.

Of course, semi-finals and final will be on the same night.

Georgio Petrosyan will return to the K-1 ring, taking on the Japanese favorite Yoshihiro Sato in a superfight.

FEG have also announced the intentions of holding a 63kg tournament later this year. There will be a couple of 63kg fights on this card, and it will be interesting to see how DJ Taiki does in the K-1 ring.

FEG have had a big night with DREAM 12, and it will continue tomorrow when they hold the final of this year's K-1 World Max tournament.

10/26 KI-1 World Max 2009 Final - Semi-Finals Announced

FEG have today announced the match-ups for the K-1 world max final to be held in Yokohama Arena on October 26.

FEG have deceided to match the 2 surprise fighters against each other. That means that Giorgo Petrosyan will face the Japanese hope, Yuya Yamamoto. The other semi-final sees 2 veterans face off. Andy Souwer was the winner in 2007 and 2005, he is facing the champion from 2004 and 2006, Buakaw Por. Pramuk.

Of course, the final will be held the same night.

The reserve fight will see Yoshihiro Sato take on Yasuhiro Kido.

2/23 K-1 World MAX Japan Tournament - LIVE Results

Well, I got my ticket and will be able to give you the live results for this event!!!

Round 1 is judged a draw and Shirasu takes the second. Ozaki has to perform in the last round

Yasuhito Shirasu gets the decision 3-0 and is the reserve fighter in the tournament.

2. Opening Fight 3min. x 3: Shingo Garyu vs. Hiroyuki Owatari
Judges score round 1 to Owatari, after Garyu was knocked down early. The second round gooes the other way and its all even after 2 rounds.

An entertaining fight goes to the judges. Garyu gets the decision 2-0

Ologun will be deducted a point for missing weight, Kohirumaki got a yellow for holding, but still pulled out a win in the last round. Boring fight until the last round.

This fight felt more than an exhibition fight than a proper k-1 fight. Watanabe, the bokser lost a clear decision in the end

Golyaev is limping after the 1st round, and all Sato has to do in the second is to hit his left leg. Eventually the Russian Muay Thai champion is unable to stand.


Main-Event Japan Tournament Final:

The final was fight of the night. Kohiromaki knocked Yamamoto down in the 1st round and seemed to be crusing to victory, when he was knocked down himself in the last round. The fight went to the judges and it was a deserved win for Kohirumaki.

2/23 K-1 World MAX Japan Tournament - Reminder

K-1 is holding their Max Japan Tournament today. I was surprised that it does not seem to be airing live, so have deceided to go out and try to get a ticket.

Some good fighters are on the card, and it should be a pretty good event. I am looking forward to seeing what Sergey Golyaev can do in K-1, MMA fighters have done good in K-1 lately so it should be interesting.

2/23 K-1 World Max Japan Tournament - Sergey Golyaev Added!!

FEG has added 2 super fights to the K-1 World Max Japan Tournament they will hold in Yoyogi 1st Gymnasium on February 23.

The rumor that "Dida" will fight in this card persists, but I think that is not the case any more... Japanese media is no longer listing him as a participant, but I am not sure either way or what would be the reason for him not competing. He was definitely announced earlier.

There is a new MMA name on the card though... And this might be even more interesting than "Dida"... Sergey Golyaev has had his fights in Sengoku until now, this time he is fighting in K-1, which means a switch to FEG. I dont know if this is a sign that the organizations are looking to cooperate, but after his win over Takanori Gomi in Sengoku, Golyaev was definitely a profile Sengoku wanted to keep (or so I would think). Golyaev is taking on another Japanese favorite in Yoshihiro Sato.

The other fight added sees Japanese boxing champion Kazuhisa Watanabe taking on kickboxer Daisuke Uematsu.

2/23 K-1 World Max -Japan Tournament Match-ups Announced

Yesterday FEG announced the fighters for the K-1 World Max Japan Tournament. Today they have announced the match-ups that will be the first round in this 1-Day tournament. In addition to that, the reserve fight was also announced.

The big fight in the 1st. round is the match-up between Kohirumaki and Ologun. But this tournament is full of talent. I have a feeling Yasuhiro Kido will take home the title this year as well. Last year he won the Japan Tournament and made it all the way to the final 8, where he lost to Artur Kyshenko.

"Dida" seems to have been taken off the list of participants, he was announced last year and I dont know if it is just a misuderstanding. I will take him off to have the list consistant with what is reported in the Japanese media. I hope he fights though!

2/23 K-1 World Max -Japan Tournament

FEG have added some fighters to this event which will be held in Yoyogi 1st Gymnasium.

This should be a good tournament again. Hinata is a very talented fighter making his K-1 debut. The 22 year old went 4-0 in RISE last year, beating HAYATO in the process.

For me, the favorite would be Yasuhiro Kido or Andy Ologun, but it will be a close tournament and anything can happen.

Announced as fighting outside the tournament is Andre Dida. It will be interesting to see how he does. MMA fighters have done very well against K-1 fighters lately, and though Dida might be considered more an K-1 fighter than Kawajiri, it will be interesting to see here. Kozo Takeda will of course be looking to redeem himself, regardless of opponent.

FEG have announced some participants for February's World Max tournament event, and there is a surprise in there. I was not expecting Andre Dida to come back here and not in DREAM. Dida can do both, I just prefer to see him fighting with MMA rules. But I guess the money is better in K-1 and FEG likes fighters to do both.

10/1 K-1 World MAX 2008 Final - RESULTS

There was more than the Pancrase finals happening yesterday, K-1 had their World MAX tournament finals on as well. This time the TV ratings were better as well, the event scored 12.6, with the all Japanese Semi-Final between Masato and Yoshihiro Sato topping out on  18.5, which is good.

In the tournament, outsider Kyshenko made the final to face the home town favorite Masato. The judges needed extention in order to determine a winner, but Masato won his 2nd world MAX title. His previous win came in 2003, but he has reached the final twice sice that the third time proved lucky.

K-1 is haveing their World MAX finals in Nippon Budokan this Wednesday. Participating are stars like Andy Souwer, Masato, Albert Kraus, Buakaw and Black Mamba. It should be a good event, as usual, there are semi-finals and finals on the same night. Also on the card is the ISKA (International Sports Karate Association?) 7/7 K-1 World Max Final 8

K-1 is holding the quarterfinals for this year's World Max tournament tomorrow. The finals for this event will be held October 1.

The card is packed and there are some interesting fights even outside the tournament. Andre Dida is fighting a K-1 rules fight against Remigijus Morkevicius in a fight I cant wait to see. Also the tournament reserve between Albert Krause and Mike Zambidis looks very interesting.

7/7 K-1 World Max Final 8 - Fights

FEG has announced a number of Superfights for the Final 8 event to be held in Nippon Budokan on July 7.

One of the fighters that will be interesting to see is Dida, the fact that he is fighting in a K-1 event shows the advantage FEG has. They are able to use fighters in both their organizations, it will be interesting to see how long it takes before Mark Hunt is fighting in DREAM now...

7/7 K-1 World Max Final 8 - Matchups

K-1 has today announced which fighters will meet in the quarter finals to be held in Nippon Budokan July 7. The finals will be held October 1.

Buakaw Por. Pramuk vs. Yoshihiro Sato
Andy Souwer vs. Warren Stevelmans
Yasuhiro Kido vs. Artur Kyshenko

That's right, Yoshihiro Sato gets another shot at Buakaw. For those who remember, their fight in Feb. was very close. Sato almost KO'ed Buakaw in the final seconds of the extention, but Buakaw took a close decision.
