1/24 DEEP 45 Impact - RESULTS

DEEP 45 was held yesterday in Osaka, and the main event was a title fight between 2 DREAM welterweight GP participants in Seichi Ikemoto and Yuya Shirai. Ikemoto won the title in the same arena in July 2008. This time he continue building on his losing streak, in a fight that went all the way to a decision. DEEP employs 5 judges in a title with and all voted for Yuya Shirai to be the new champion.

Tatsunao Nagakura expends his undefeated record to 5 with a very decisive win in the 1st round. Winning by KO over an experienced opponent in Yusuke Kagiyama.

DEEP have announced some fights for their Impact 45 event which will be held in Zepp Osaka. The main event will probably be the title fight between 2 DREAM welterweight tournament participants in Seichi Ikemoto and Yuya Shirai.

But there are some more interesting fights on the card as well, Korean "Ryo" is taking on Rikuhei Fujii and "Taisho" is taking on Makoto Kamaya.

Also a fight I am looking forward to is Jutaro Nakao vs. Yuki Ito.

DEEP have announced some participants for the first event next year. It will take place in Zepp Osaka and the main event will most likely be a DEEP welterweight title fight.

Also on the card will be Jutaro Nakao, Young "Ryo" Choi and Seigo Mizuguchi. It should be a good and entertaining card from the looks of it.

8/23 DEEP 43 Impact - Fight Order

Even if there are 2 title fights on this card, Ryo Chonan returning to DEEP = main event! He will face Jutaro Nakao on the way back to reclaiming his DEEP title and I think we will see him take on Fukuda for the title soon.

The 2 title fights on the card should be very interesting, UFC veteran Dokonjonosuke Mishima will be defending his featherweight title against the very talented Takafumi Otsuka . In the bantamweight division, champion Masakazu Imanari will be taking on the experienced Tomohiko Hori, who won the DEEP Protect cup to deserve his title shot. Both these fighters are coming off a loss and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top. Everyone knows what Imanari brings, its just so hard to deal with...

There are some very interesting fights that completes this card. Bernard Ackah continues his fight to again be included in the big leagues, this time taking on a fighter that has seen it all in Ryushi Yanagisawa.

In what might be the most interesting match-up of the night, Paraestra Chiba's Toshiaki Kitada will take on Philadelphia Fight Factory's Zach Makovsky.

Making his DEEP debut is a fighter that has done very well in ZST, Shunichi Shimizu. He will be taking on Koichiro Matsumoto in a fight that might very well end up being fight of the night.

Lots to look forward to in Korakuen Hall on August 23! There should still be tickets available.

Ryo Chonan is the former Middleweight champion, however seems to be fighting at welterweight now (something that I missed). It will be interesting to see if he stays at welterweight. In which case he should be challenging Ikemoto for the title.

8/23 DEEP 43 Impact - Ryo Chonan's Opponent Announced

DEEP had already announced 2 title fights for this card, and it was clear that Ryo Chonan would make his return to DEEP on this card. Chonan went 1-3 in his stay with the UFC and now he wants his belt back! Chonan had to vacate his DEEP title once he signed for the UFC, he has made it clear that he wants the title now held by Riki Fukuda back. His first opponent is the veteran Jutaro Nakao.

Also announced on this card is Bernard Ackah, but I had to rub my eyes and take a second look when I saw who he was fighting. It looks like Ryushi Yanagisawa will be making a return at the age of 37. This is a fighter that has fought all the legends (Randy, Fedor, Bas, you name it), but that was between 1993 and 2001. Will be awesome to see him back (finding it almost hard to believe)!

Allience's Yuki Ito will take on the very talented Sadao Kondo in what will be a very exciting fight.

2/20 DEEP 40 - LIVE RESULTS

A good DEEP card in Korakuen Hall today. I will be there and if everything goes to plan, I will give you the results live. I will try to get some comments about the fights added too, but there will be no PBP. I am taking pictures, so it would just be too much.

There are several interesting fights on here, the winner of the main event will qualify for the DREAM welterweight GP.

Riki Fukuda and the veteran Ryuta Sakurai will square off to see who will be the next challenger for the DEEP Middleweight title, currently held by Yuichi Nakanishi.

2/20 DEEP 40 - Weigh-in

DEEP is putting on a very good card tomorrow. I will be there and give you live results again.

The main event on this card is a DREAM welterweight GP qualifier between 2 very experienced fighters in Seichi Ikemoto and Hidetaka Monma. It should be a good fight, but with a GP entry on the line they will come out hard.

Also on the card is a fight between 2 DEEP veterans in Riki Fukuda and Ryuta Sakurai. This is a rematch from DEEP 34, on that occation Riki Fukuda won the decision.

As if that wasnt enough, there is a lightweight tournament on the card as well. This is a 4 man tournament and the winner will walk home with the lightweight title. The final will be held in April.

2/20 DEEP Impact 40 - Fight Order

DEEP have announced the fight order for DEEP 40. For the 2nd year running, I will celebrate my birthday (even though it is not on the day) at DEEP. It looks like a very good card, not as many fights as normal but the quality is very high. I will be doing live updates, while taking pictures and drinking beers (will be a busy one).

This card is full of good fights, but the main event will be the DREAM welterweight GP qualifier between DEEP welterweight champion Seichi Ikemoto and Hidetaka Monma.

Before that, Riki Fukuda and Ryuta Sakurai (the two guys that were the favorites to win the tournament last year), will fight to deceide who gets to challenge the champion Yuichi Nakanishi next. It is almost a year, to the day since they met in the DEEP middleweight tournament. On that occation, Riki Fukuda came out on top.

In addition to that, there is a lightweight tournament on the card (final will be in April), and the former welterweight champion Hidehiko Hasegawa will also fight.

2/20 DEEP Impact 40 - Bu Kyung Jung Added

DEEP have announced another couple of fights for DEEP 40 which will take place in Korakuen Hall on Friday February 20.

I am really excited about the lightweight tournament! The match-ups were announced today and the winner will be the DEEP Lightweight Champion (forget everything I said about Obiya earlier!).

Korean Bu Kyung Jung, the guy that almost submitted Aoki at Yarennoka a little over a year ago, returns. In spite of his record, I am really excited to see the former olympic medalist. The rest of the participants were announced earlier, and this is looking like a very good tournament.

Former DEEP welterweight champion, Hidehiko Hasegawa returns to the DEEP ring and will face Makoto Ishikawa. If it is the Makoto Ishikawa I think it is, he must have gained a bit of weight to be in the same weight division as Hasegawa... Or maybe Hasegawa has lost some...

The last fight added today is Alliance talent Yuki Ito who will face ZST fighter Kota Okazawa. This should be a very good fight.

DEEP have announced that they are holding a lightweight tournament, with 4 fighters to deceide the next challenger for the lightweight title. From memory, I think Obiya was awarded the title at DEEP 39 (I might be wrong about that though, not able to find confirmation now). Either way, 4 fighters will participate in this tournament and 3 were announced today.

The tournament is looking very strong!! Announced so for are Jutaro Nakao, Katsunori Kikuno ad Kichiro Matsumoto. I dont care how they match these guys up, it will be good. One more fighter is going to be announced for this tournament. I suspect someone pulled out...

2/20 DEEP 40 - First Fight and Participants Announced

DEEP have announced the first fight for what should be a very good event on February 20. I am predicting that this will be one of the better DEEP cards for a while, just from what I am hearing, but already it looks good.

Announced today is the match-up between DEEP welterweight champion Seichi Ikemoto and Hidetaka Monma. Monma has only fought once since losing to "Mach" Sakurai in DREAM 1, that was a win in Cage Force - Eastern Bund in November. He won that fight against debutant Andre Mafetoni in the first round.

Monma and Ikemoto have fought before, in DEEP 13. On that occation Monma won in the 2nd round. Now, Ikemoto is the DEEP welterweight champion, and this should be good fight.

Also announced as participants are some very good fighters in Katsunori Kikuno, Hiroto and Koichiro Matsumoto.

12/10 DEEP 39 - Fights Added

Shoji Maruyama, the former Lightweight King of Pancrase will be fighting AACC's Takafumi Otsuka in what should be a very interesting fight. Shoji had a busy first half of 2008, with 3 fights in 5 months. He won the Pancrase Lightweight title agaist Artur Oumakhanov with a kick to the head. He then decided to vacate the title to move down a weight class. His last fight was in DREAM 3, a decision loss to Yamazaki.

Shoji will be facing Takafumi Otsuka who is a very tough fighter. He is the sort of fighter that never gives up and this should be a good fight between 2 talented fighters.

Also added is the Heavyweight fight between Inoue and Tazawa.

It is shaping up to be a good card again for DEEP. The event is being held in Korakuen Hall.

Earlier this year DEEP stripped Hwan Sung Bang of the Lightweight Title. Of course this is a spot they need to fill. With Obiya coming back, they have a posible champion, but what is better than a tournament??

12/10 DEEP Impact 39 - Fights Added

DEEP have announced an additional 4 fights to their December 10 event. DEEP 38 was a very good event, and drew a big crowd as well. Lets hope this time will be as successful.

This event will have some DEEP vs. Wajyutsu Keisyukai 3 have been announced today. In addition to that, DEEP Middle weight champion, Yuichi Nakanishi, will have his first fight since winning the title in the tournament earlier this year. Again this will not be a title fight, but should still be a good fight against Yuya Shirai (another participant in the middleweight tournament earlier this year).
