7/3 DEEP 48 Impact - Participants Announced

Saturday, 15 May 2010

Deep boss, Saeki, has announced 14 fighters for their DEEP 48 Impact card to be held in Differ Ariake on July 3. There are a log of good names on the card, among them DEEP middle weight champion, Riki Fukuda and "Iron" Nakamura. Also announced is Korean Jung Hwan Cha, or the guy that KO'd Ryo Chonan at the Astra event.

Also look out for the young Yoshiki Harada fighting out of the "Mach" Dojo. This is a fighter "Mach" Sakurai himself told me he had high hopes for when I met him and Yoshiki has proven why in the ring. It will be good to see him get another fight under his belt.

For DEEP going forward, these are the plans: Ofcourse, in June there will be the Cage Impact event in Osaka. July there will be an event in Nagoya in addition to 48 Impact. DEEP 49 Impact will be in August, in KOrakuen Hall. The BIG one, celebrating 10 years of DEEP, DEEP 50 Impact will take place in October.

There will also be a cage event in Hamamatsu in September and in Tokyo in December.

Participants:
Riki Fukuda 16-4-0
Jung Hwan Cha 7-5-1
Shigetoshi Iwase 9-12-3

2/28 DEEP 46 Impact - Live Results

Sunday, 28 February 2010

DEEP 46 is underway in Korakuen Hall, and as usual I am following the blows on Sherdog's chat.

There has been a few big upsets already. A very good card, and I thought some of the fights would go the distance. So far though, all early finishes.

As usual, there are some announcements in the ring. Bernard Ackah, Yuya Shirai, Katsunori Kikuno, Ryo Chonan, and Miku Matsumoto enteres.

Bernar Ackah was suppose to be in the LHW tournament, but broke his hand. He now would like to fight on the April card, and I am guessing he would be a reserve fight for the tournament there.

Miku Matsumoto is confirming rumors that she will be retiring, announceing that she would like to have an exhibition fight before that. Very sad, as she is one of the top female fighters out there.

13. Feather: Takafumi Otsuka Def. Takeshi Yamazaki by Decision 3-0
12. Middle: Riki Fukuda Def. Hiromitsu Kanehara by Decision 3-0

The main event will be DEEP featherweight champion, Takafumi Otsuka, taking on DREAM veteran Takeshi Yamazaki. Yamazaki has not had a win in 4 fights, and will be very hungry, but taking on the champion will not be an easy task.

6/30 DEEP 42 Impact - Fight Order

Friday, 26 June 2009

On Tuesday Deep will hold their next Impact event in Korakuen Hall. The main event is the middleweight title fight between the champion Yuichi Nakanishi and Riki Fukuda. Fukuda has had star potential for a long time, and he proved that in his last fight against Murilo Rua.

But this card has more than 1 interesting fight, Miyata and Yamazaki will battle in the featherweight division. I promise that this fight means a lot for both fighters, there are rumors of a DEEP title shot, but I have a feeling that this fight might also serve as a qualifier to DREAM as well. I have the same feeling about Bernard Ackah's fight here, a win might secure him a fight on an upcoming DREAM or Sengoku card.

Main-Event: DEEP Middleweight Title Fight:
Yuichi Nakanishi 9-8-3 vs. 14-4-0 Riki Fukuda

65.8kg: Kazuyuki Miyata 6-7-0 vs. 14-9-2 Takeshi Yamazaki
83.9kg: Ryuta Sakurai 18-15-4 vs. 17-22-1 Hiromitsu Kanehara
87kg: Bernard Ackah 2-2-0 vs. 10-5-1 Young Choi

70.3kg: Toshikazu Iseno 6-5-2 vs. 1-0-0 Kleber Koike
77.1kg: Yusaku Tsukumo 6-3-0 vs. ぺ・ミョンホ (?)
77.1kg: Shigetoshi Iwase 7-11-3 vs. 泰舗 "Goten" Okuno

6/30 DEEP Impact 42 - Miyata vs. Yamasaki Announced

Saturday, 6 June 2009

Saeki and DEEP have announced an awesome match-up for their next DEEP impact event. 2 DREAM veterans will face eachother, this time Miyata will go down to featherweight though. Miyata's opponent is Shooto, DEEP and DREAM veteran Takeshi Yamazaki. Yamazaki is coming off 2 losses, both fighters needs this win to get back onto the main stage of DREAM. Maybe there will be a DEEP title fight for the winner of this one too.

The card is looking very good, and the addition of Miyata vs. Yamazaki will make this a very good event! A total of 14 fights are announced and I think this card should be just about complete now.

In the future fights, Outsider standout Tomoya Kato will make his DEEP debut.

Announced:
Kazuyuki Miyata 6-7-0 vs. 14-9-2 Takeshi Yamazaki
Toshikazu Iseno 6-5-2 vs. 1-0-0 Kleber Koike
Yusaku Tsukumo 6-3-0 vs. ぺ・ミョンホ (?)
Shigetoshi Iwase 7-11-3 vs. 泰舗 "Goten" Okuno

Future Fights:
Motoki Awaji 0-2-0 vs. 3-0-0 Tomoya Kato
Yasuhiro Yamazaki vs. Yusuke Kadoyama
Tatsumitsu Wada 0-5-0 vs. 3-2-0 Tatsuya Tsuchida

6/30 DEEP Impact 42 - Fights Announced

Wednesday, 20 May 2009

DEEP have announced a few fights for their DEEP 42 card. The event will take place in Korakuen Hall on Tuesday June 30. The main event should be the DEEP Middleweight title fight between challenger Riki Fukuda and last year's tournament winner Yuichi Nakanishi, this will be a repeat of the final.

But there are more interesing fights on this card.

2 true veterans of the Japanese MMA scene will face off. Ryuta Sakurai will take on Hiromitsu Kanehara, and between them they have almost 30 years experience. Kanehara's career has been on a slump over the last few years, since 2002 he has only won 2 fights. However, he got a win in his DEEP debut in April and will be looking to build on that. Sakurai on the other hand has had some ok years, but he tends to loose to top fighters like Ryo Chonan and Riki Fukuda. It will be a very interesting battle between the veterans.

A lot of fans will also be excited to see Bernard Ackah on this card. He is returning to the MMA ring after getting a strong win in the ShootBoxing ring in April. He is taking on the experinced Korean Young Choi, Choi has had a mixed start to his DEEP career, with 1-2 record so far.

The undefeated Kazuhisa Tazawa will take on a Korean fighter, and I am not sure of the name, I think it is Jae Young Kim. I believe he is also scheduled to fight on the Art of War card on May 23.

Also look for the talented Hiryu Okamoto, there are lots of good fighters coming from the Mach Dojo and he is one of them. This time he is taking on the veteran Tomoya Miyashita.

Announced:
Ryuta Sakurai 18-15-4 vs. 17-22-1 Hiromitsu Kanehara
Bernard Ackah 2-2-0 vs. 10-5-1 Young Choi
Kazuhisa Tazawa 4-0-1 vs. Jae Young Kim (?) 金親尊氏
Hiroko 2-0-1 vs. 5-8-2 Kenji Nagai
Tomoya Miyashita 10-5-5 vs. 3-1-1 Hiryu Okamoto
Ryota Uozomi 3-1-0 vs. Pat Uncangco

4/29 DEEP M-1 Challenge Japan

Thursday, 2 April 2009

The M-1 Challenge has gained in popularity, and last year's event in Korakuen Hall was very good. This year the event is being held in Differ Ariake, and it looks like it should be a very good event.

The Japanese team is taking on the UK, and it should be a very competitive battle. The stars on the Japanese team are Hidehiko Hasegawa, Riki Fukuda and Yusuke Kawaguchi.

I have had some problems finding the fight record for some of these fighters, but there are some very good talents in here. There will also be some superfights and opening fights at this event. But just with the M-1 challenge fights there are 15 fights, this should be very good value ticket.

Japan vs UK

10/23 DEEP 38 - RESULT

Thursday, 23 October 2008

First up, an apology. I was going to try to give live results today (told a few people on my favorite discussion board, the ONLY ONE)... and it didnt work. It sucks, but shows that an investment might be needed before I can provide that service.

Anyway, just got home from DEEP event of the year. This was very good, and I enjoyed every fight on the main card (I missed the future fights). I have to say, DEEP is back as I used to know it!!!

Thoresen had his toughest opponent yet, and it showed. He faced a guy that is VERY good at avoiding submissions, but very good at staying on top. The end result? Ishikawa got all the take downs and stayed on top all the fight... He also got most of the damage and the majority win. Simeon had most of the submission attempts, but was forced to work from his back.

Fight of the night was Riki Fukuda vs. Jason Jones in my eyes. Fukuda was the better fighter in the first round, but Jones came on strong in the second. Jones didnt hear the bell and continued his GnP a bit to long for the fans. One of which through ice across the ring. There are some rumors of trouble outside the arena (only involving one of these fighters, but I hope its not the case).

Otherwise a lot of fights went the distance, but this was not a boring event by any means. There were lots of close fights, and lots of celebrities for fans to take pictures with. It was a very good night of fights and a return of DEEP as I know it.

The only thing this event really left me missing was a 3rd round....

These are the results:

12. Katsuyori Shibata vs. Yasuhito Namekawa DRAW

11. Ryuta Sakurai Def. Sojiro Orui by Decision 2-1
10. Yusuke Kawaguchi Def. Seryu (星龍) by Decision 2-0

6. Eiji Ishikawa Def. Simeon Thoresen by Decision 2-0

10/23 DEEP 38 - Fight Order Announced

Thursday, 16 October 2008

DEEP has announced the fight order for DEEP 38 today. This will be a very good event, with some good talents and some very experienced veterans.

Seryu is a new face for most, I would think. He is a Mongolian sumo wrestler, and is said to be very good at that. I really dont know what to expect...

DEEP have put up a picture from the press conferance earlier:

I also remeber reading that he is friends with Asashoryu (one of 2 Yokozuna's in Sumo)

Also on the card, Norwegian Simeon Thoresen is putting his undefeated status on the line, and I am picking him to get a submission win, but Ishikawa is very hard to put away and very good at avoiding submissions. It might go to the 2nd round.

Other than that, this card features: Riki Fukuda, Katsuyori Shibata, Ryuta Sakurai and Jason Jones (called Mini-Manhoef in Japanese media). This is going to be a very good event!

Main-Event:
12. Katsuyori Shibata 2-5-0 vs. 24-16-3 Yasuhito Namekawa

11. Sojiro Orui 5-2-4 vs. 17-14-4 Ryuta Sakurai
10. Yusuke Kawaguchi 7-0-0 vs. Seryu (星龍)
9. Satoko Shinashi 28-2-2 vs. 4-13-0 Yukiko Seki
8. Riki Fukuda 11-4-0 vs. 7-3-0 Jason Jones
7. Masanori Kanehara 10-4-5 vs. 6-3-1 Takafumi Otsuka
6. Simeon Thoresen 9-0-0 vs. 16-14-3 Eiji Ishikawa
5. Toshikazu Iseno "ISE" 5-4-2 vs. 5-4-5 Masayuki Okude
4. Seigo Mizuguchi 3-3-0 vs. 2-1-0 Shunji Kosaka
3. Ryan Bow 17-8-2 vs. 5-1-0 Koichiro Matsumoto

2. Yasuaki Kishimoto 2-2-0 vs. 徳久宜生 (マッハ道場)

10/23 DEEP 38 Impact - Riki Fukuda's opponent/Fight Cancelled

Friday, 10 October 2008

Riki Fukuda's opponent for DEEP 38 was announced today. It is a fighter who has been in Japan before. Jason Jones was very strong in his last fight in Japan, that time he was fighting on the Dutch team against Japan in the M-1 Challenge. The won a TKO win over Yuta Watanabe. This time he is taking on a stronger opponent in Riki Fukuda and this should be a very good fight as well.

I cant remember the last time DEEP had a card to rival this (have to go a couple of years back at least. Even considering that one fight was taken off today...

The fight that was taken off is this fight:
Daiki Hata "DJ Taiki" 8-5-3 vs. 15-7-2 Naoya Uematsu

Added:
Riki Fukuda 11-4-0 vs. 7-3-0 Jason Jones

Card so far:

10/23 DEEP 38 Impact - AWESOME Fights Added

Tuesday, 7 October 2008

DEEP have added 4 fights to their event on October 23. There is a lot to be excited about here, but for me (as a Norwegian), I look forward to seeing Simeon Thoresen.

He is a great talent and now making a move into the Japanese Market. This is a huge opportunity and I cant wait to see him fight here. Thoresen has 9 fights, finishing all within the distance and only 3 have gone to the 2nd round. Eiji Ishikawa should be his biggest test by far, Ishikawa is a very experienced fighter with fights against opponents such as Ryo Chonan, Ryuta Sakurai, Satoru Kitaoka, Hidetaka Monma and Hector Lombard. My tip is still for Thoresen to finish this, but it should be a good fight. I wrote about Thoresen as a future prospect here, you can also see a highlight video.

Ok, so now that its mentioned… They have also added a main event. Katsuyori Shibata will take on Yasuhito Namekawa. This is something that should draw the crowd. Just a speculation from my side, but I have been expecting more cooperation between DEEP and DREAM, I think that is what we are seeing with this card.

Main event:
Katsuyori Shibata 2-5-0 vs. 24-16-3 Yasuhito Namekawa

Ryan Bow 17-8-2 vs. 5-1-0 Koichiro Matsumoto
Simeon Thoresen 9-0-0 vs. 16-14-3 Eiji Ishikawa
Yusuke Kawaguchi 7-0-0 vs. Seryu (星龍)

Toshikazu Iseno "ISE" 5-4-2 vs. 5-4-5 Masayuki Okude
Sojiro Orui 5-2-4 vs. 17-14-4 Ryuta Sakurai
Daiki Hata "DJ Taiki" 8-5-3 vs. 15-7-2 Naoya Uematsu

10/23 DEEP 38 Impact - Additional Fights Announced

Saturday, 27 September 2008

DEEP announced an additional 2 fights for their event on October 23.

Worth noticing in the addition of Masayuki Okude, this fight is pitted as one or the ZST vs. DEEP challenges and should be interesting. Okude has turned a bad run lately and racked up 3 straight wins in ZST. He will be facing "ISE" or Toshikazu Iseno, who has actually lost his only DEEP fight. "ISE" did have a decent run in GCM (Cage Force) though and this should be a competitive fight.

In the other fight, 2 DEEP fighters will square off. Sojiro Orui has had 2 ZST fights, but the rest of his 11 fights are all in DEEP. He will face the very experienced Ryuta Sakurai. Both of these guys lost in the first round of the DEEP middleweight tournament. I would still favor Sakurai in this one.

This is the card as it looks now, there should be lots more fights to be announced.

Added:
Toshikazu Iseno "ISE" 5-4-2 vs. 5-4-5 Masayuki Okude
Sojiro Orui 5-2-4 vs. 17-14-4 Ryuta Sakurai

Previously announced:
Daiki Hata "DJ Taiki" 8-5-3 vs. 15-7-2 Naoya Uematsu
Masanori Kanehara 10-4-5 vs. 6-3-1 Takafumi Otsuka
Satoko Shinashi 28-2-2 vs. 4-13-0 Yukiko Seki
Seigo Mizuguchi 3-3-0 vs. 2-1-0 Shunji Kosaka

Participating:
Riki Fukuda 11-4-0
Yasuhito Namekawa 24-16-3
Yusuke Kawaguchi 7-0-0
Eiji Ishikawa 16-14-3

10/23 DEEP 38 Impact

Friday, 19 September 2008

DEEP has announced the first fights for their DEEP Impact 38. It looks like it will be a very good card again. There are no title-fights so far (looks like the Satoko Shinashi fight is a non-title fight), but there are some good fights and with the participants announced it looks very promising.

Yusuke Kawaguchi went through the MegaTon GP without much trouble (one fight was a split decision, the rest were mismatches). After winning the title, he said that fighting in DREAM was the... well, dream... Lets see what Saeki has planned for him. I hope it is someone good.

Also participating are Ryuta Sakurai and Riki Fukuda.

Daiki Hata "DJ Taiki" 8-5-3 vs. 15-7-2 Naoya Uematsu
Masanori Kanehara 10-4-5 vs. 6-3-1 Takafumi Otsuka
Satoko Shinashi 28-2-2 vs. 4-13-0 Yukiko Seki
Seigo Mizuguchi 3-3-0 vs. 2-1-0 Shunji Kosaka

Participating:

Riki Fukuda 11-4-0
Yasuhito Namekawa 24-16-3
