2/13 ShootBoxing - Fights Announced

The first ShootBoxing event of 2010 is looking close to final. It has been announced that female S-Cup champion Rena will take on the 16 year old talent from Jabout in Australia. Jurjevic competed in the World Muay Thai Championships in 2009. It should be a good fight between 2 talented fighters.

Also announced, though NOT official is the matchup between ShootBoxing champion Tamaaki Umeno and Jabout's Dean Xuereb.

This is looking like a very strong event, and I am sure Korakuen Hall will be packed for this.

2/11 Shoot Boxing - RESULTS

Big event happening in Korakuen hall today. It is sold out and there are some very interesting MMA fighters on the card too.

Rumina Sato and Mamoru Yamaguchi, both big Shooto names, are making their Shoot Boxing debuts. In addition to that Miku Matsumoto is having her 2nd Shoot Boxing fights.

There are also some very good Shoot Boxers and Muay Thai fighters on the card too. Including Hiroki Shishido, Greg Foley, Kenji Kanai and Noriyuki Enari.

I will be updating the results as they become available.

Feels like Australia is invading Japan today, there are 2 Aussie fighters on this card in addition to that, the Australian soccer team is playing Japan (0-0 after 1st half).

12. 70kg: Hiroki Shishido Def. Wei Shu Lei (?) by KO Round 3 1:54
11. 70kg: Greg Foley Def. Kenji Kanai by TKO Round 1 0:37
10. 56kg: Mamoru Yamaguchi Def. Noriyuki Enari by Decision 3-0
9. 60kg: Akifumi Utagawa Def. Takeshi Ishikawa by decision 3-0 after extention
8. 65kg: Rumina Sato Def. Matt Campbell by TKO Round 2 2:14
(Japanese media is saying Mike Campbell, please correct me if I am wrong, I believe it is Matt Campbell...)

7. 71kg: Takaaki Umeno Def. Taiga Yamaguchi by decision 3-0
6. 60kg: Hiroaki Suzuki Def. Koya Shimada by decision 3-0
5. 51kg: Miku Matsumoto Def. Misato Tomita by KO Round 1 1:01

MIKU has now won her 2 Shoot Boxing fights, it is a very good and impressive result for her.

Rumina makes it a double for the MMA fighters so far. A strong performance from him, and I have a feeling we will see more of him in Shoot Boxing.

Mamoru also pulls out the win, a very good night for the MMA fighters.

2/11 Shoot Boxing - Card Complete **UPDATED**

Shoot Boxing have announced the addition of Greg Foley to this card. The Australian competed on the on the S-Cup Finals card last year and won his fight (which was a reserve fight). This time he is in the co-main event, taking on the Japanese Champion Kenji Kanai. The fight is also just days before his 28th birthday (from what I can see), so a win should be a good birthday present.

With that addition, there is only 1 fighter missing on the card. The fighter missing, will be Rumina Sato's opponent.

It looks like this should be a very good card, the event is sold out already (probably due to this being a public holiday in Japan), but there will be some tickets available on the day from the ticket booth downstairs (from 16:00).

***UPDATE***
Shoot Boxing have announced Rumina Sato's opponent as well today. That means the card is complete and will have 12 fights.

The last fighter added is also Australian, from Jabout in Penrith as well, Matt Campbell (the Japanese site says Mike, but I am pretty sure its Matt...). He should be able to put up a good fight against the Shooto veteran, and this event is looking very good!

12. Main-Event - 70kg: Hiroki Shishido vs. Wei Shu Lei (?)
11. 70kg: Kenji Kanai vs. Gerg Foley
10. 56kg: Mamoru Yamaguchi vs. Noriyuki Enari

9/12 Shoot Boxing - RESULTS

Here are the results from the Shoot Boxing event today. It was AWESOME! Even if 2 of the 3 fighters I was looking forward to watching lost. This is the first time I can remeber that the Korakuen Hall was packed (at the events I have been to), and the value was very good.

As for the fights, I like watching this kind of fights, but I prefer that fighters get to show their ground game though. Value for money, this is the show to go to though! Shoot Boxing is gaining popularity, and I can see why... Good fights, good show and cheap tickets.

11. Main Event: 70Kg S-Cup Rule 5x3min (Unlimited Extention)
Hiroki Shishido Def. Kenji Kanei by Decision 3-0

10. Expert Rule 3x3min (Unlimited Extention)
Kenichi Ogata Def. Jason Scerri by TKO Round 3 0:56
I was looking forward to seeing the Australian Jason Scerri in this one. He was very entertaining, and would have won R1 IMO, but was knocked down in the last seconds. In the end, I think he lost because he was trying to put on a show. I hope the organizers realize that and invite him back! A fun fight to watch, but Ogata was too good in the end.

9. SB Japan Super-Bantam 5x3min (Unlimited Extention)
Noriyuki Enari Def. Akito Sakimura (after 2 ext. rounds) by decision 3-0

8. Expert Class Rule 3x3min 60kg (Unlimited Extention)
Takeshi Ishikawa Def. Crazy Hill by decision 3-0

7. 58kg 3min x 3 (unlimited extention)
Pajunsuk Por. Pramuk Def. Naguranchun Masa M16 by TKO Round 1 2:49 (3 downs)
Look out for Pajunsuk, very good performance today!

6. Expert Class Rule 3x3min 72kg (Unlimited Extention)
Takaaki Umeno Def. Tsuyoshi Torii by KO Round 2 2:37
Kiyoshi Tamura was in Torii's corner, but it didnt help tonight, as Umeno was much better in this form of fighting.

5. Freshman Class Rule 60kg 3x3min (2 rounds extention)
Kouya Shimada Def. Takanori Fujiwara by decision 3-0

4. Starting Class Rule 51kg 3x2min (1 round extention)
Misato Tomita Def. Megumi Fuji by decision 2-0
I was really looking forward to seeing Mega-Megu in this. It showed that this is not her type of event, but she will get better. In the end, Tomita was better and more experienced at Shoot Boxing. I would pay to watch Megumi fight any day though, she will be back!

3. Starting Class Rule 55kg 3x2min (1 round extention)
Kazuyuki Fushimi Def. Hideo Iwasaki by KO Round 1 1:44

2. Starting Class Rule 65kg 3x2min (1 round extention)
Hiroaki Suzuki Def. Yoshiki Harada by decision 3-0
A very entertaining fight.

1. Starting Class Rule 55kg 3x2min (1 round extention)
Toyochika Osawa Def. Tomonori Suzuki by decision 3-0

I have to see that the additions are very interesting! Megumi Fuji is added to face Misato Tomita.

Also added is a fight between the Buakaw protege Pojonsuk(?) Por Pramuk against Japanese Shoot Boxing ranked #1 featherweight Naguranchun Masa M16.

The 3 last fights should be very exciting, the main event is between the Shoot boxing veterans Shishido (SB Japan Welterweight Champ) and Kanai (SB Japan Super-Welterweight Champ) in a non-title fight. It will also be interesting to see how Australian Jason Scerri does against the 2006 S-Cup winner Ogata. Then there is the SB Japan Title fight between Phanton Shinya and Noriyuki Enari.
