1/4 Sengoku - First fights announced
Monday 3 November 2008
Sengoku have announced the first couple of fights for their NYE event (held January 4).
As expected, the winners of the tournaments get their title shot. In addition to that, Hidehiko Yoshida will participate.
Gomi will face Kitaoka for the Lightweight title and I have a feeling Gomi will spend a lot of time preparing for it, he doesnt want to lose another fight. With Kitaoka he knows what to expect and it will be interesting to see if he can keep it standing.
Jorge Santiago had a good GP as well, he will meet Kazuo Misaki for the Middleweight title.
***UPDATE***
King Mo says in an interview with ProMMA that his next fight is the January 4. so thats adding another fighter to this event. King Mo is someone who is buliding a good fan base here and I always wondered where he got the girls from... That is also answered in the interview, you can read it here.
Both fights should be very interesting and hopefully they will be able to fill Saitama Superarena (Something they have been struggling to do).
Confirmed:
Takanori Gomi 29-4-0 vs. 23-8-9 Satoru Kitaoka
Jorge Santiago 20-7-0 vs. 21-8-2 Kazuo Misaki
Participating:
Hidehiko Yoshida 8-6-1
King Mo 2-0-0

Nice. Wonder who they will match up with Yoshida.
gomi shouldnt recieve his title shot, he loose. at least for galyaev they should match him against masvidal for the #1 contender. in my opinion santiago should beat misaki, and sengoku will match up yoshida vs nastula and they should match fujita vs nakao also. paul daley, in a sherdog article confirm he was fighting at sengoku january event an i hope the can sign phil baroni and match them up.
Daley would be a good addition to any organization.
Gomi lost, and it was a risk they took. I think the GP should have been for the title to be honest.
A rematch with Golaev should be on the cards as well. Would be after the title fight though. The title fight was set before the GP started and it would be difficult to go back on that...
nastula vs yoshida, battle of the old judo dudes. :D
i don't like Santiago but i think he can beat Misaki. Misaki's never been KO'd afaik but he broke Nakamura's jaw =\. I don't see him subbing Misaki, but i guess we'll see in Jan.
Gomi vs Kitaoka, i'm not sure... If the Pride Gomi shows up, he'll win, otherwise Kitaoka will be the champ.
i heard thats its going to be a one night 205 pound gp, including lawal, randleman, jocz, kawamura and that yoshida said that he may drop weight to fight in in, any info on this?
that'd be awesome
